Winnipeg Police Service News Release

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION- ARREST             C11-98889
As previously released, on Monday, May 16th, 2011 just before 11:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members were dispatched to report of a motor vehicle collision that had just occurred at a shopping centre located in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a 73 year old male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian had been transported to the hospital in unstable condition.
 
The 82 year old male driver and the 77 year old female passenger of the Buick Lesabre were not injured.  Both the vehicle and the business sustained major damage as a result of the collision. 
 
On June 3rd, 2011, as a result of an extensive investigation by Members of the Central Traffic Unit the 82 year old male driver will be facing a charge of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. 
 
 
He has been released on a promise to appear.
 
 
COMMERICAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS            C11-115124
On June 4th, 2011 just after 11:00 p.m. patrolling Winnipeg Police Service Division 12 Officers observed suspicious behaviour involving two individuals near a pizza restaurant within the 3000 block of Portage Avenue.
 
Upon seeing officers, the female who was standing outside the store motioned to a male who was within the store and standing at the counter area.  This male was then observed by officers to grab a drink prior to running out of the store. 
 
Both suspects attempted to make good their escape however they were apprehended almost immediately by the two officers. 
 
As a result of these officers' observations and quick actions a robbery was prevented and no one was injured. 
 
A 15 year old female and a 17 year old male were arrested and will be facing a charge of Robbery.  The female youth has been released for a future court date while the male youth has been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.  He has also been charged with possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose after officers located a knife on his person.  
 
 
STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARRESTS            C11-114414
As previously released, on June 4th, 2011 shortly after 2:20 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members responded to the area of Mountain Avenue and Salter Street for a report of a male that had been assaulted. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 17 year old male lying on the ground in need of medical attention.  After further examination by Paramedics it was learned that the male had been stabbed in the upper body.  The victim had been transported to the hospital in critical condition, and was later upgraded to stable condition. 
 
Investigators have learned that the victim was waiting for transportation in the area when a group of individuals approached him and words were exchanged.  A number of individuals within the group began assaulting the victim and during this assault a knife was produced and the victim was stabbed in the upper body.  
 
This assault continued until a passer-by notified police and all suspects fled the area in separate directions.   
 
Uniform Officers as well as the Canine Unit, surrounded the area where a number of individuals were taken into custody in different locations within the immediate area. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by Members of the Division 13 Crime Unit, several individuals were interviewed resulting in the following arrests: 
 
Aaron Dean LAQUETTE, 19 years, Cody Henry BOUSQUET, 20 years, Carlson Christopher WHITEWAY, 19 years, Jordan Lee FISHER, 20 years, and a 13 year old male youth, all from Winnipeg are facing the following charges: 
 
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession weapon for dangerous purpose
 
WHITEWAY and BOUSQUET also face a charge of breach of probation, while LAQUETTE was processed on an outstanding warrant as well as charges for failing to comply with a recognizance.
 
These males have been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, while the male youth has been released for a future court date.
 
A 14 year old female from Winnipeg is facing a charge of Theft Under $5000.00, while a second 14 year old female is a facing a charge of Aggravated Assault. Both females been released on a promise to appear.
