Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Thursday, June 9th, 2011

 
TRAFFIC INCIDENT INVOLVING A MOTORCYCLE – ARREST C11-118331
On June 8th, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m., uniform members from the East District, while patrolling in the area of Island Shore Boulevard observed a motorcycle travelling eastbound on Bishop Grandin Boulevard at a high rate of speed.
 
Officers observed two occupants and made attempts to catch up to the speeding motorcycle. A traffic stop was attempted near the intersection of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and Lagimodere Boulevard when officers activated their emergency equipment. The driver refused and fled from police northbound on Lagimodiere Boulevard.
 
The driver of the motorcycle continued northbound on Lagimodiere Boulevard, and again was observed to be driving in an erratic fashion placing himself, the passenger and members of the public at risk. It was at this time officers observed the motorcycle to have no licence plates.
 
The motorcycle proceeded eastbound onto Highway #1 reaching speeds up to 200 km\hr.
 
From a distance, the motorcycle was observed to turn northbound onto Highway #207 at a high rate of speed. Uniform members subsequently requested Air1 to attend the area. Within 2 minutes, Air1 had a visual on the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued to travel westbound onto Highway #15, then northbound onto Highway #101 and eventually stopping in the area of Gunn Road due to the coordinated efforts of Air1 and ground units. 
 
A 20 year old male of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:
 
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
  • Flight from Police Officer
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking
  • Drive Carelessly
  • Drive an Unregistered Vehicle
  • Drive without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
  • Drive with Improper Class of Licence
  • Fail to Produce a Drivers Licence
  • Warrant to Apprehend
He was detained.     
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION C11-118534
On June 9th, 2011 at approximately 5:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a residence in the 500 block of Rathgar Avenue regarding a working fire.
 
The investigation has revealed that 2 adults and 2 children fled the residence. An adult female jumped from a 2nd story window resulting in medical attention being required.
 
Damage is estimated at $200,000.00.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force continue to investigate.
