Winnipeg Police Service News Release

STABBING- UPDATE ARREST                  C11-128584
As previously released, on Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 at approximately 12:50 p.m. a number of Winnipeg Police Service Units, along with Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to the area of Higgins Avenue and Main Street, for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.
 
Upon arrival, officers located a 45 year old male who had been stabbed.  Paramedics transported the male to the hospital in critical condition and he is now listed in stable condition. 
 
Members from Division 11, the Identification Unit as well as the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation which involved interviewing a number of individuals.  
   
The investigation has revealed that the victim was in attendance, with a number of other individuals, in the park area located near the intersection of Higgins Avenue and Main Street.  A male who had also been in attendance in the park began assaulting some unknown persons, causing the victim to come to the aid of these persons.  A physical altercation occurred between the victim and this suspect male.  Both males were known to each another.  This altercation ended without injuries being sustained by either party and the two were separated.  The victim continued socializing in the park with other friends. 
 
Several minutes elapsed at which point the suspect male approached the victim and began to stab him a number of times about the body.  During that time, two other men within the park came to the victim's aid and managed to stop the assault.  These males, aged 38 and 39 years, were threatened by the suspect before he began walking away from the scene.   
 
Responding officers were flagged down by witnesses in the area and the suspect male was arrested.
 
In consultation with the Crown Attorney's Office, Kevin George DANIELS, 30 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement into this incident: 
 
-          Attempt murder
-          Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
-          Carrying concealed weapon
-          Assault with a weapon X2
-          Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm X2
 
DANIELS has been detained in custody. 
 
 
CDSA WARRANT-ARRESTS                C11-128175
On Monday, June 20th, 2011, just before midnight, Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crimes Unit executed a controlled drug and substance act search warrant at a residence within the 400 block of Riverton Avenue.   A number of individuals were located within and arrested without incident. 
 
As a result the following has been seized: 
 
- Approximately 1300 ¼ gram pieces cocaine, with an estimated street value of $26, 000
- 4 grams Cocaine, estimated street value of $320
- 11 grams Marihuana, estimated street value of $100
- $1500 in cash and assorted scales and packaging material
 
Three males, aged 26, 27 and 29 years, along with two females, aged 21 and 22 years will be facing the following charges in connection with this incident: 
 
-          Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking- Cocaine
-          Possessing controlled drug or substance- Cannabis (Marihuana)
-          Possess proceeds of crime
 
All parties reside within the City of Winnipeg. They have been released a promise to appear. 
 
 
ARSON INVESTIGATION- ARRESTS            C11-83400
As previously released, on Thursday, April 27th, 2011 shortly after 5:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members along with Emergency Service Responders attended to department store located within the 3600 block of Portage Avenue for a report of fire. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that the fire, which was located at the rear of the premise involved a number of wooden palettes, was essentially extinguished.  There were no reported injuries during this fire. 
 
Damages are estimated at $100,000 to the building and $200,000 to the contents and merchandise.    
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Arson Strike Force the cause of the fire was determined to be suspicious in nature and two suspects were identified. 
 
On May 25th, 2011 at approximately 5:45 p.m. a 15 year old male was arrested at a residence within the 200 block of Stradford Street.
 
Then on Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 at approximately at 12:30 p.m. a 17 year old male youth was at a residence within the 3400 block of Portage Avenue.
 
Both youths are facing the following charges: 
 
-          Arson- disregard for human life
-          Arson- damage to property
 
They have been released to appear in court at a later date.    
 
 
FINANCIAL ROBBERY- UPDATE ARREST   C11-127810
As, previously released, on Monday, June 20th, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 Members responded to a report of a robbery that had occurred at a financial institution within the 6000 block of Roblin Boulevard. 
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male suspect entered the bank and produced a note indicating that he had a gun and demanded money from the teller.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene. 
 
The 19 year old female teller was not injured during this incident.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation.  On Tuesday, June 21st, 2011 at approximately 5:30 p.m. a suspect male was arrested at the Public Safety Building.
 
Ivan Yvon Laurent LAMPMAN, 59 years of Winnipeg has been charged with one charge of Robbery for his alleged involvement into this incident. 
 
LAMPMAN has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
