COMMERCIAL PASSENGER VEHICLE INSPECTIONS
The Winnipeg Police Service, as well as our partners in the transportation industry are committed to promoting safety for motorists using the streets and highways throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba.

Vehicle inspections ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in relation to the mechanical safety and standards of all vehicles and the companies they operate on behalf of.

As the Winnipeg Police Service is committed to keeping all motorists and passengers safe on our streets, the public and businesses are reminded that officers will be conducting inspections throughout the summer, including the upcoming July long weekend.

 
SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT C11-122779
On June 14th, 2011 at approximately 5:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a residence in the St. Matthews area of Winnipeg regarding a sexual assault incident that occurred earlier in the morning.

Officers met with a 22 year old female victim who advised that she had been confronted by an unknown male at approximately 1:30 a.m. while walking in the area of Sargent Park. The suspect approached the victim and pulled her into a yard where a serious sexual assault occurred. The victim eventually broke free and fled home, subsequently notifying a family member.

As a result of the incident, the victim sustained several upper and lower body injuries.
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit are continuing with the investigation and no further details are available at this time.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-124024
On June 16th, 2011 at approximately 4:45 a.m., uniform members responded to a commercial robbery at a convenience store located in the 500 block Keenleyside Street.  
 
Attending members met with a 23 year old male clerk who advised that 3 male suspects armed with weapons attended to the business. Two of the males proceeded behind the counter and demanded cash and merchandise. An undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes were obtained after which time the suspects fled.
 
The clerk was uninjured during the incident.
 
The suspects are described as: Males, 16-19 years of age, Aboriginal in appearance, between 5'7"-5'9" in height, weighing between 150-180 lbs. All three males made attempts to conceal their identity.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
