Winnipeg Police Service News Release

STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARRESTS           C11-112476
On Wednesday, June 1st, 2011 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Uniform Members were dispatched to a residence within the 500 block of College Avenue for a report of two males that had been stabbed. 
 
Upon arrival officers located two male victims, aged 17 and 20 years, suffering from stab wounds to their upper body.  Paramedics transported both males to the hospital in critical condition, and both have since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by both Uniform and Crime Unit Members from Division 13, two male youths are currently in police custody at this time.
 
This investigation is continuing by Members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
 
STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARREST        C11-112549
On Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 at shortly after midnight Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 Members were dispatched to a multi suite rooming house within the 800 block of Alverstone Street for a report of a male that had been stabbed. 
 
With the assistance of a patrolling Canine Unit, an adult male victim, who had been stabbed in the upper body, was located behind a restaurant within the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue. 
 
Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition where he has since been upgraded to critical- stable condition.
 
A 54 year old male is currently in police custody and this investigation is continuing by Members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
MISCHIEF- ARREST                           C11-112651
On Thursday, June 2nd, 2011 at approximately 4:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Officers were dispatched to hotel within the 200 block of Carlton Street for a report of graffiti being spray painted on walls by a number of males. 
 
Patrolling Division 11 Members attended and began searching the area for the suspects when they were advised that a vehicle had just been broken into. 
 
In a coordinated effort between officers and tactical flight officers from Air1, a suspect male was located in parking lot in the 100 block of Vaughan Street and arrested without incident.
 
Estimated damages to the hotel, a church and a semi trailer in this area, as well as two vehicles that were broken into, is upwards of $1000.00
 
A 19 year old male is currently in police custody and will be facing numerous charges including: 
 
-          Mischief Under $5000.00 X4
-          Possession of property obtained by crime and
-          Theft Under
 
This investigation is continuing by Division 11 Officers. 
 
ROADWATCH PROGRAM STATISTICS
Over the weekend of May 27th to May 29th, 2011 the Winnipeg Police Service conducted the RoadWatch Program.
 
During the evening hours, officers were set up in the following areas:
 
Main Street and William Avenue
Pembina Highway and Calrossie Boulevard
Pembina Highway and Markham Road
 
Utilizing conventional line-ups and area saturation, 163 vehicles were stopped resulting in the following: 
 
-          9 Alcohol Screening Device tests were performed with 4 registering in a PASS, 3 registering WARN (receiving 24 hour driving suspensions). Two drivers were charged with Drive Impaired/Drive over .08.
 
-          One of the drivers who registered a WARN was the subject of a conditional sentence order requiring him to abstain from alcohol consumption and with an absolute curfew. He is facing two new charges for breaching his conditional sentence and was detained in the Remand Centre.
 
Also, as a result of the traffic stops, a total of 14 Provincial Offence Notices were issued. 
 
The Road Watch Program will operate next weekend, June 3rd to 5th, 2011.
