ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C11-114663
On June 4th, 2011 at approximately 10:40 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Unit members were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Donald Street and Lagopoulas Way.

It was at this time, members observed a 2009 Nissan 370Z travelling in a northbound direction in excess of the posted speed limit. Officers, wearing full uniform and high visibility traffic vests pulled the vehicle over and began to approach the driver. The driver then accelerated hard and turned his vehicle in the direction of the officers, causing them to jump out of the path of the vehicle. The driver continued northbound at a high rate of speed.

As a result of the dead end on Lagopoulas Way, the driver drove back towards the officers. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over a second time when the driver again drove his vehicle directly at officers, causing them to jump out of the path of the vehicle to avoid being struck. The suspect vehicle fled northbound on Donald Street at a high rate of speed.

On June 6th, 2011 at approximately 4:50 p.m., an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service member observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Waterfront Drive. The off-duty member approached the driver and subsequently placed him under arrest.

A 32 year old male is facing the following charges: Assault Peace Officer with Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm x 2, Drive while Disqualified x 2, Dangerous Operation – Motor Vehicle and Speeding.

He was released on a Promise to Appear.
