Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Saturday, June 11th, 2011

POSSESS WEAPON- ARREST            C11-120087
On Friday, June 10th, 2011 shortly after 10:00 p.m. a lone male entered a taxi cab being operated by a 35 year old male driver in the area of Pembina Highway and Grant Avenue.  Once inside the cab the suspect exposed a large knife that he had within a beer case and threatened to harm the driver if he did not drive him to a location.
 
At approximately 10:15 p.m., while driving in the area of Pembina Highway and Dalhousie Drive, the cab driver flagged down a patrolling police unit and the suspect was arrested without incident.
 
Thomas Wilfred TAYLOR, 36 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
 
- Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking- Cannabis Marihuana
- Utter threat to cause death or bodily harm and
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
 
He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. 
 
 
MARIHUANA GROW- ARRESTS            C11-119993
On Friday, June 10th, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members were called to a residence within the 900 block of Jubilee Street for a report of a domestic disturbance between a male and a female. 
 
Upon arrival officers met with a female occupant and learned that the male had fled the scene but was later arrested by officers within the area of Calrossie Boulevard and Pembina Highway.  During the course of their investigation a number of Marihuana plants were discovered within the residence.
 
Member of the Green Team assisted and a controlled drug and substance search warrant was obtained resulting in the following seizure:
 
-  Approximately 300 marihuana plants and 500 marihuana clones, with an estimated street value of $880,000.00. 
 
A 46 year old male and a 40 year old female will be facing charges for the production of controlled substance- Cannabis Marihuana.  They have been released on a promise to appear.   
 
 
ROBBERY INVESTIGATION                  C11-119587
On Friday June 10th, 2011 at approximately 4:00 a.m. a 37 year old male was delivering newspapers in the area of Pritchard Avenue and Battery Street when he was approached by a lone male suspect armed with a gun. 
 
The suspect directed the victim into the victim's car which was parked nearby and demanded he attend to various businesses to withdraw money from his bank card. 
 
An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the victim prior to the suspect forcing the victim to drop him off in the area of Main Street and Dufferin Avenue   
 
The suspect is described as; Caucasian male with pale skin, approximately 60 years with long white/ grey hair to his shoulders.  He was wearing a dark jacket and jeans.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit are continuing with this investigation.  Anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect is asked to contact them at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION   C11-120363
On Saturday, June 11th, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Members along with Emergency Service Responders were dispatched to the intersection of Ellice Avenue and King Edward Street for report of a motor vehicle collision that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers located two vehicles, a Volkswagon Golf and a Ford Explorer that had both sustained significant damage.  A 31 year old female was transported to the hospital in critical condition with serious upper body injuries.  Two male drivers, aged 29 and 56 years were both transported to the hospital stable condition. 
 
This investigation is on going by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
