Winnipeg Police Service News Release

ROADWATCH PROGRAM STATISTICS
Over the past weekend during the evening hours of 6:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on June 17th and June 18th, 2011, the Winnipeg Police Service operated the "RoadWatch Program".
 
Police units were set up in the following areas:
 
Nairn Avenue and Grey Street
Chief Pequis Trail and Henderson Highway
Speers Road and Elizabeth Road
Pembina Highway and Adamar Road
 
The Automated Licence Plate Reader was used with the following breakdown: 
 
- reviewed the status of 778 vehicles.  
 
- 219 vehicles were stopped and 12 Alcohol Screening Device tests were performed. 6 registered Pass and 2 registered a Warn and received a 24 hour driving suspension. 4 drivers were charged with Drive Impaired/Drive over .08.   
 
As a result of the traffic stops, a total of 11 Provincial Offence Notices were issued. Among the offence notices issued there was 1 suspended driver, 4 unregistered vehicles and 1 driver was charged with careless driving.
 
SUMMARY:
Since the RoadWatch program began in April 2011, Winnipeg Police Service members have charged 25 drivers with driving over .08, 4 for refusing to provide a breath sample a further 25 drivers received 24 hour suspensions after registering a Warn on the roadside screening device. 
 
As well, 318 Provincial offence notices were issued for various Highway Traffic Act offences.
 
The Road Watch Program will operate through the upcoming weekend from June 24th – 26th.
 
 
SUSPECT MALE WANTED                    C11-121381
On Sunday, June 12th 2011 shortly after 7:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Members responded to a report of a residential break and enter that had just occurred at a residence in the area of McKenzie Street and Stella Avenue.
 
Officers learned that 3 male suspects, one armed with a hand gun, had attended to the residence and forced the front door while the occupants within were sleeping.  The suspects demanded cash and property from the victims.  The suspects removed a large television and fled to an awaiting vehicle. 
 
There were no reported injuries during this incident.
 
Members of the Division 13 Crime Unit continued with the investigation and have indentified a male suspect.  A warrant for arrest has been obtained for the following male: 
  
 
Blake Allan Wade MORAND, 24 years
D.O.B: 1986/11/29
No Fixed Address
