Westwood Collegiate Students Raising Awareness of Distracted Driving
Today at 1:30 p.m., the students from the (Teens against Drinking and Distracted Driving) T.A.D.D. group at Westwood Collegiate, located at 360 Rouge Road, will be enacting a mock vehicle crash to raise awareness on the dangers of distracted driving.

To make the event as realistic as possible, the mock crash site will utilize a damaged vehicle provided by Manitoba Public Insurance, as well as student actors from the Westwood drama club.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service School Resource Unit, along with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will be in attendance. A simulated emergency response exercise will be performed to demonstrate how quickly a tragedy can occur when drivers make the choice to utilize their phones while driving.

Following the exercise, emergency services responders will address the student body on the importance of safe driving to prevent the wide-spread devastation and consequences that occur when drivers are distracted.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
