Homicide Investigation- Arrest - C14-66174
As previously released, on April 1, 2014 shortly before 3:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were summoned to an apartment building within the 400 block of Elgin Avenue after a deceased male was discovered. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male within his suite. The victim was identified as John David GOUNDRY, 51 years of Winnipeg.
 
Homicide Unit members continued with the investigation and with the assistance of the Forensics Services Unit a suspect was identified.  On May 15, 2014 investigators arrested the suspect without incident.
 
Investigation has revealed that the victim and suspect had been involved in a verbal argument.  The argument escalated to the point where the suspect armed herself with a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body.
 
Valerie Arlene ASSINIBOINE 56 years of Long Plain, Mb has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder for her alleged involvement.
 
She was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
