Weapons Arrests – C14-96614
On May 12, 2014 at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the Canine Unit, General Patrol and Air1 conducted a traffic stop in the area of Corydon Avenue and Cockburn Street involving a black Acura MDX.
 
Upon making contact with three male occupants, officers located and seized two loaded firearms and ammunition.
 
.45 Calibre Smith and Wesson 1911 semi-automatic
.45 Calibre Glock 21 semi-automatic
 
At this time, it has been determined that the Smith and Wesson had previously been stolen from the Regina, Saskatchewan area. The investigation is continuing regarding the background associated to the Glock.
 
Keith SAPONG, 29 years-old of Winnipeg, Johnathan HEBRADA-Walters, 28 years-old of Edmonton and Theodoros BELAYNEH, 29 years-old of Edmonton have been charged with numerous (over 45) weapon related offences due to their alleged involvement.   
 
They were remanded into custody.
 
 
Break-in and Enter Arrest – C14-95879
On May 11, 2014 at approximately 2:00 a.m., a residence was broken into by a lone male suspect via an unlocked door in the area of Taraska Bay.
 
Once inside, the suspect began removing electronics and placing them outside the rear of the home. The suspect re-entered the residence and made contact with an adult female asleep in a bedroom. She was awoken, at which time the suspect assaulted her in an
attempt to keep her from calling out for help. The victim managed to break free alerting two other occupants. The suspect was pursued on foot into the neighbourhood.
 
Patrol and members of the Canine Unit responded to the area. The suspect was tracked and arrested in the area of Inkster Boulevard and Keewatin Street.
 
Members of the District 3 Crime Unit continued the investigation.
 
Devon McGillivary, 22 years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement:
 
Break Enter & Commit – Dwelling house
Assault
Fail to comply with probation order
 
He remains in custody.
