4Life Student Graduation From The 'Hurt No More' Empathy Based Anti-Bullying Program
Today at 1:30 p.m., Hugh John McDonald School will host the graduation of over 230 students from inner-city schools involved in the "Hurt No More" (HNM) empathy based anti-bullying program.

Over the past year and a half, the Winnipeg Police Service in partnership with the 4Life Foundation has been facilitating programs at seven inner-city schools to develop and mentor children and youth through activity and sport. We are proud to acknowledge that we are engaging over 1500 students per month, including a new after-school program at Turtle Island Neighbourhood Centre.

In March 2014, based on the success of these programs, we were chosen by the 4Life Foundation to run a pilot program "Hurt No More", which is believed to be the first of its kind.

The schools participating in the pilot are Hugh John McDonald, Dufferin and Pinkham Schools.

Several classes are now graduating from the HNM program. This empathy based program was led by 4Life Winnipeg Blue Bomber players. The activities included: being confined to a wheelchair‎, wearing sound proof headphones, wearing a blindfold during class, as well as other tasks with limitations. While participating in these simulated tasks, Winnipeg Blue Bomber players and WPS members assisted the participants in journaling and fostering a true understanding by putting themselves in the shoes of others. These activities allowed the students to learn empathy through first-hand experience.

The 8 week program has come to an end and we are now celebrating its success, as well as thepartnership with Winnipeg School Division #1 and the 4Life Foundation. We now have over 230 HNM ambassadors dedicated to preventing bullying by passing their experiences on through their actions.

Based on the success of this program, our hope is that it expands internationally.

Due to the on-going dedication of our educators and partners we are truly changing the lives of Winnipeg's children and youth.
