Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  FRIDAY, APRIL 15th, 2011

FIRE                                                   C11-73561
On Thursday, April 14th, 2011 at approximately 5:20 p.m. patrolling Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members observed smoke emerging from a garage within the 500 block of Young Street. Winnipeg Fire Department attended and successfully put out the fire. 
Damage to the garage, as well as a vehicle within is estimated at $20,000.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force and anyone who may have information related to this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY                    C11-73621
On Thursday, April 14th, 2011 at approximately 6:40 p.m. Uniform Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a gas bar within the 100 block of St. Anne's Road for a report of commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival, officers learned that a lone suspect entered the business and demanded money from the 25 year old female employee.  The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes and then fled the scene.  There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, early to mid 20's, approximately 6' tall with a slim to medium build.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit and anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
FIRE                                                          C11-73751
On Thursday, April 14th, 2011 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service Members, along with Emergency Service Responders responded to a working fire at an apartment complex within the 1000 block of Markham Road. 
 
The fire was extinguished and there were no reported injuries.  Damage to the building was extensive and is estimated at $150,000.
 
At this point in the investigation the cause of the fire has not been determined.  This investigation is still ongoing by members of the Arson Strike Force and anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
