Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Wednesday, April 20, 2011 

 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING PEDESTRIAN C11-77523
On April 19, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the area of the 1800 block of Main Street regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
 
Investigators have learned that a vehicle travelling northbound on Main Street in the area of Kingsbury Avenue struck a pedestrian after attempting to cross Main Street. The suspect vehicle was observed to flee the scene after the collision occurred.
 
The vehicle is described as: a 90's dark coloured, possibly green, Toyota Camry, driven by a Caucasian male, 50-60 years of age, with grey hair and beard.
 
A 27 year old female pedestrian was transported to hospital in critical condition where she remains at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact investigators at 986-6271 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C11-77555
On April 20, 2011, at approximately 1:35 a.m., officers responded to a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of the 500 block of Pembina Highway.
 
Attending members discovered that there were 4 occupants within the Toyota Sienna at the time of the collision which consisted of the following:
 
·        66 year old male driver
·        63 year old female passenger
·        48 year old male passenger
·        89 year old female passenger
 
Three of the occupants were conveyed to hospital in stable condition however, the 89 year passenger has since succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the Toyota Sienna had been travelling southbound on Pembina Highway when it veered off the roadway. The vehicle subsequently made contact with a pole, coming to a stop in front of a nearby business.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact investigators at 986-6271 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C11-77173
Between April 3 and April 19, 2011, Uniform members and members of the Major Crimes Unit have been involved in a lengthy investigation regarding a commercial robbery crime spree.
 
The robberies consisted of an armed disguised male who would attend to a gas bar or financial institution and demand cash and or cigarettes. No injuries were sustained in any of the instances.
 
They are as follows:
 
·        April 3 – 300 block of Wardlaw Avenue
·        April 6 – 600 block of Corydon Avenue
·        April 7 – 600 block of Osborne Street
·        April 9 – 700 block of Watt Street
·        April 11 – 400 block of Academy Road
·        April 13 – 500 block of Waterloo Street
·        April 14 – 100 block of St. Anne's Road
·        April 15 – 1600 block of Ness Avenue
·        April 17 – 1600 block of Ness Avenue
·        April 18 – 700 block of Watt Street
 
On April 19, 2011 at approximately 3:00 p.m., the male attended to a business in the 700 block of Watt Street while armed with a weapon. He demanded cash and cigarettes and subsequently fled the area.
 
Officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest.
 
Larry Ross CURTIS, 29 years of age has been charged with the following offences:
 
Robbery with a weapon x 8, Robbery x 3 and Disguise with intent x 11 as a result of his alleged involvement.
 
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
SEXUAL ASSAULT C11-77112
On April 19, 2011, uniform members responded to the report of a sexual assault which had occurred in the Amber Trails area of Winnipeg.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 36 year old female victim was jogging in the area at approximately 1:30 p.m. when she was approached from behind and groped to the lower body. The victim was not injured.
 
The suspect fled the area on foot.
 
There is no suspect information available at this time.
