BOATING PROHIBITION CURRENTLY IN EFFECT
Conditions on the City's waterways are extremely hazardous at this time due to elevated water levels, ice flows and debris. In the interest of public safety and dike integrity, the Winnipeg Police Service River Patrol Unit has issued a prohibition against boating activities on the Red, Assiniboine and Seine Rivers within the City of Winnipeg. This prohibition includes all power and paddling vessels not engaged in Emergency Operations.
 
All City of Winnipeg boat launches are barricaded and closed. Anyone found breaching this prohibition may be charged under the Canada Shipping Act, Small Vessel Regulations and liable to fines of $300.00 to $5000.00. This prohibition remains in effect until further notice.
 
Citizens are once again reminded to take extreme caution around fast moving waters, including rivers, streams, creeks, and retention ponds.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT - ARRESTS C11-71653
On April 12, 2011 at approximately 4:45 a.m., East District Uniform members responded to the area of the 100 block of Carmen Avenue regarding a vehicle break-in and theft of property.
 
Attending members discovered that two male suspects had just broken into a parked vehicle by smashing out the driver's side window. Property was removed and the suspects fled the area on bikes.
 
A short time later, officers were notified of a garage break-in which had taken place at a residence in the 100 block of Roosevelt Place. The homeowner observed two youths fleeing from his garage and as a result police were notified.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Canine Unit were deployed at which time one of the suspects was tracked to the area of the 300 block of Washington Avenue. The second suspect fled again only to be tracked by Canine Unit members to the area of the 300 block of Winterton Avenue.
 
The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.
 
A 14 year old male and 15 year old male are facing the following charges: Theft Under $5000.00, Mischief Under $5000.00, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,
 
Unlawfully in a Dwelling House, Break Enter a Place, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Possession Break-in Instruments.
 
They have been released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-72465
On April 13, 2011 at approximately 5:50 a.m., officers responded to a commercial robbery at a convenience store located in the first 100 block of Osborne Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that an armed male attended into the business and demanded that the 41 year old male employee open the cash till. Cash and cigarettes were relinquished and the suspect fled the area on foot.
 
No injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 5'9" tall and black hair.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
