Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

 Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

1:00 p.m.
 
HOMICIDE- ARREST                                C11-78157
On Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident in the area of 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.
 
Attending members located an injured female who was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The victim has been identified as Sheila FONTAINE, 42 years old.  
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim as well as family members were in attendance at a hotel when they attended outside. Once outside a verbal argument ensued between the victim and another group of females, believed to be young adults.
 
This argument escalated to a point where a confrontation occurred between the two groups which resulted in the victim being stabbed.
 
Upon arrival officers located an 18 year old female who being held by witnesses at the scene. 
 
Teya Wynter SPENCE, 18 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Manslaughter. She has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.   
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit and a number of persons have yet to be interviewed.

BREAK AND ENTER COMMERCIAL      C11-79809
On Friday, April 22nd, 2011 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to a commercial break and enter to a retail business within the 600 block of Portage Avenue.
 
Upon arrival officers observed the front door of the business to be smashed with a rock as well as damage to an interior display case.
 
A variety of police related equipment was stolen from premises including handcuffs, ASP batons, flashlights, gloves and knives. Also stolen was an Royal Canadian Mounted Police cap badge in a leather case, and body armour vests. 
 
The estimated value of the stolen goods is approximately $2000.00.
 
Anyone with information regarding this incident or the suspect(s) is asked to contact investigators from the Division 11 Crime Unit at 986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
BREAK AND ENTER COMMERCIAL      C11-81337
On Monday, April 25th, 2011 at approximately 3:50 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members were dispatched to a commercial burglar alarm at a grocery store within the 900 block of Portage Avenue.
Upon arrival officers observed the large front window, estimated value $500, was smashed and large rock was observed within.  The investigation has revealed that a suspect male proceeded to smash the window with the rock and enter the store where an undisclosed amount of cigarettes were stolen.
 
The suspect is described as:
 
-          Male, Caucasian, wearing all black clothing and a black touque
