WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE 7TH ANNUAL HALF MARATHON
The Winnipeg Police Service is presently looking for 75 additional volunteers to assist in various positions during the half marathon on May 1st, 2011. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please visit the event's webpage at www.wpshalfmarathon.ca or call the Canadian Cancer Society directly at 774-7483.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON ARRESTS C11-68073
On April 7, 2011 at approximately 3:35 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended to the area of a high school located in the 500 block of Chalmers Avenue regarding an assault with a weapon incident.
 
Officers learned that several students, including staff members had been bear sprayed as a result of an altercation outside the school.
 
Numerous victims were treated for the effects caused by the spray.
 
The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit and two 16 year old males have since been arrested.
 
They are facing charges of: Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Carry a Concealed Weapon.
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear. The investigation is continuing.
 
  
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-69704
On April 9, 2011 at approximately 3:20 p.m., uniform members responded to a hold up alarm at a gas bar located in the area of the 700 block of Watt Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male suspect entered the business and confronted a 19 year old female attendant, while demanding that the cash till be opened. The suspect threatened the employee while in possession of a weapon at which time she complied.
 
The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, 20-25 years of age, approximately 6'00" tall, slim build and no facial hair.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
ROBBERY INCIDENTS – ARRESTS C11-70568 C11-70692
On April 10, 2011 at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers responded to a fast food restaurant located in the 2500 block of Portage Avenue regarding a commercial robbery incident.
 
Investigators have learned that a lone male suspect entered the business and confronted two female employees. An undisclosed amount of cash was removed and the suspect fled the area. No one was injured as a result.
 
At approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to another robbery incident involving a local taxi cab.
 
The investigation has revealed that the cab driver was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash including his cab by two male suspects in the Waverley Heights area of Winnipeg. The suspects fled in the stolen cab and subsequently became involved in a motor vehicle collision in the area of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and River Road. Both suspects were arrested at that time.
 
The investigation continues by members of the District 6 Crime Unit. The adult suspects remain in police custody at this time and are facing charges as a result of both incidents.
