Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – ARREST C11-72709
On April 13, 2011 at approximately 1:10 p.m., uniform members responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of the 900 block of Henderson Highway.
 
Investigators have since learned that a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix travelling northbound on Henderson Highway struck a 22 year old female walking in an eastbound direction at the crosswalk.
 
The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where she later succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
An 18 year old male has been arrested and is facing the following charges: Criminal Negligence Cause Death and Drive Dangerous Cause Death.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
SUDDEN DEATH INVESTIGATION C11-72685
On April 13, 2011, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of a suspicious circumstance at the rear of the 100 block of Osborne Street.
 
Officers attended to the area and subsequently located a deceased individual within a small shed. At this stage of the investigation, it is believed that the deceased is an adult male and possibly a long term missing person.
 
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, however foul play is not suspected at this time.
 
Members of the Missing Persons Unit continue to investigate.
 
   
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING IMPAIRED DRIVER AND POLICE VEHICLE C11-73161
On April 14, 2011 at approximately 3:15 a.m., uniform members responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a police cruiser.
 
The investigation has revealed that a marked police cruiser was travelling eastbound on Bison Drive when it entered the intersection at Barnes Street. A red Toyota Corolla was observed travelling at a high rate of speed southbound on Markham Road when it entered the intersection on a red light striking the police cruiser.
 
Both officers were conveyed to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
 
A 20 year old male was arrested and is facing the following charges: Impaired Driving Cause Bodily Harm x 2 and Drive Over .08.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
FINANCIAL ROBBERY C11-72687
On April 13, 2011 at approximately 12:40 p.m., officers responded to a financial institution located in the 4900 block of Roblin Boulevard regarding a robbery which had just occurred.
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male suspect entered the business and immediately attended behind the teller counter. A 28 year old female employee was confronted by the armed suspect at which time he began removing an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The suspect fled and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, early-mid 20's, approximately 6'00" in height with a medium build.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
 
FINANCIAL ROBBERY C11-72763
On April 13, 2011 at approximately 2:55 p.m., uniform members were dispatched to a financial robbery that had occurred at a location in the 500 block Waterloo Avenue.
 
Investigators have learned that a lone male suspect entered the business and confronted a 64 year old female employee. The suspect demanded money but was denied. He then exited the business empty handed.
 
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, 25- 30 years of age, 5'10" – 6'00" in height, slim build and clean shaven.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
