Assault Police Officer Arrest: C18-213901
On September 27, 2018, at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of the Street Crime Unit were patrolling the area of Maryland Street and Ellice Avenue when they observed a suspicious male passenger in a taxi cab.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the male who provided a fictitious name and became uncooperative. As the male was placed under arrest, he punched an officer in the face and broke one of his teeth. Another officer was kicked and injured.
As the male fought with officers, a conducted electrical weapon ("Taser") was deployed. The first deployment was ineffective; however, the second deployment caused the male to fall to the ground.
The male, while fighting through the effects of the conducted electrical weapon, reached into his pants and tried to discard a bag containing 1.2 ounces of methamphetamine and 1.5 grams of cocaine. The male was eventually restrained and the bag was seized.
The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of $2,000 and the cocaine has an estimated street value of $150.
Both officers later attended to hospital for medical treatment.
It is believed that the male had consumed methamphetamine prior to the incident.
