Homicide – Arrest: C18-189763
 
On August 30, 2018, at approximately 10:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive 21-month-old male child at a residence in the first 100 block of Idlewild Bay.
 
The child was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.
 
A lengthy investigation by members of the Child Abuse Unit has resulted in the arrest of Allen Joseph Frier Beardy, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg.
 
It is believed that the child was injured by Beardy on two different occasions on August 30, 2018: Once at a residence in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue, and another time at the residence on Idlewild Bay. The child was later found unresponsive by his mother who contacted 911. Blunt force trauma injuries were discovered on the child's upper body.
 
Beardy has been charged with Manslaughter and has been detained in custody.
 
Homicide – Arrest: C18-210830
 
On September 24, 2018, at approximately 4:00 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of a male that had been assaulted in the railway underpass on McPhillips Street near Logan Avenue.
 
The victim, a 17-year-old male, was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation and believe that the victim was stabbed during a physical altercation with another male. 
 
On September 28, 2018, at approximately 11:05 a.m., North District General Patrol unit officers located the suspect in the 700 block of Stella Avenue and placed him under arrest after a brief foot pursuit.
 
A 13-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with Second Degree Murder and has been detained in custody.
