OnlineClassified Ad  Robberies  – Public Safety Advisory

The Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit is investigating a number of robberies stemming from online classified ads. The public is reminded to use caution when setting up purchases online. This mode of sale allows criminals to remain anonymous while taking advantage of unsuspecting buyers and sellers.

We offer the following crime prevention tips:

  • Ask for a photo of the serial number before meeting and attempt to confirm the item hasn't been reported stolen.
  • Search the serial number online.  serial number search tool
  • Conduct reverse search of the posted image of the item for sale.
  • Don't provide your personal information to anyone.
  • Check the buyer/seller's name through an online search engine.
  • Ask about the history of the item being sold.
  • Meet during daylight hours, in a public space equipped with cameras.
  • Do not transfer/provide money to the person before receiving the product.
  • Do not meet someone alone.
  • Use generic photos when posting an item for sale.
  • Follow your gut - if something feels wrong, it probably is.

 

Motor Vehicle Collision: C18-200281

On September 11, 2018, at approximately 8:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a motorcycle in the area of Main Street and Leila Avenue.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 49-year-old male, was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The passenger on the bike, a 13-year-old male, was transported to hospital in stable condition and is being treated for injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the truck was not injured.

It is believed that truck was traveling north on Main Street. When the driver proceeded to turn onto westbound Leila, the truck was struck by the motorcycle traveling south on Main Street.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Traffic Division. Anyone with additional information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

 

Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C18-196505

As previously released:

On September 7, 2018, at approximately 3:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an incident involving a vehicle at a business in the area of Gateway Road and McLeod Avenue.

A male victim had come across his vehicle which had been stolen earlier in the week from the Rossmere area. The victim attempted to stop the driver of the stolen vehicle but was dragged and injured. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered by police. No arrests have been made at this time.

Update:

Investigators have identified two people believed to be responsible.  

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Scott Kenneth LINDELL, a 39-year-old male. He is described as Caucasian, 5'8" in height and weighs approximately 165 lbs. He has short brown hair and blue eyes. 

A warrant has also been issued for the arrest of Melissa Ashley FOREST, a 25-year-old female. She is described as Caucasian, 5'3" in height and weighs approximately 90 lbs. She has long brown hair and brown eyes.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the suspects' whereabouts or with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
