 100 Day Countdown to
 International Association of Women Police Conference
Winnipeg, September 2014

 

 

In September 2014, the Winnipeg Police Service, Royal Canadian Mounted Police D Division and the Brandon Police Service will be hosting the 52nd International Association of Women Police (IAWP 2014) Conference.  With the theme "The Strength of Many – Embracing Human Rights", the conference agenda will focus on human rights relative to law enforcement.  Approximately 600 delegates from 50 countries are expected to attend.
 
Today, marks the start of the 100 day count down to the start of the conference (Parade) and the host committee is kicking off today with a preview of some events.
 
IAWP Golf Tournament, September 25, 2014
The IAWP Conference Committee is hosting a golf tournament in support of the IAWP International Scholarship fund and IAWP 2014 conference.  The tournament will be held at Kingswood Golf and Country Club in LaSalle, Manitoba.

Parade of Nations and Manitoba Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP) Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Service, September 28, 2014
The official start of the conference is marked with a spectacular parade of officers in dress uniform.  This year the parade will take place in association with the MACP Memorial Service.  Officers will parade from the host hotel, the Hotel Fort Garry, to the Manitoba Legislative Building for the memorial service.  Following the memorial service delegates will move inside of the legislative building where IAWP Board of Trustees will present two awards for officers who have made significant contributions to the organization and police agencies.
 
The parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the rear of the Legislative Building.  The community is welcome to attend and view the parade as it proceeds along Broadway Avenue.
 
Future Women in Law Enforcement, September 28 and 29, 2014
In order to attract a new generation of young women to a career in law enforcement, the host committee has planned a two conference, held in conjunction with the main conference agenda.  This program includes case study, presentations from various law enforcement agencies and a leadership luncheon focused on developing mentor contacts.  IAWP 2014 goals committed to strive to create a legacy by supporting young women interested in law enforcement. 
 
This portion of the program is open to young women, ages 17 to 25 years, who are interested in any aspect of law enforcement.  We encourage potential candidates to visit the website at www.iawp2014.org/fwile  or contact us directly at iawp2014@winnipeg.ca
 
International Scholarship Breakfast, September 29, 2014
IAWP offers a yearly scholarship to a female officer from developing country to attend the training conference.   The scholarship includes conference registration, accommodation and travel funding to Winnipeg.  The IAWP 2014 will recognize this officer by honouring her during the breakfast presentation. 
 
IAWP Annual Awards Banquet, October 1, 2014
Women police and civilian members are making significant contributions to their organizations and public safety.  IAWP pays tribute to these officers in categories which include, Officer of the Year, Leadership, Mentoring, Investigative Excellence and Courage (Medal of Valour).   
 
Gala Banquet, October 2, 2014
In 2014, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will celebrate 40 years of women in the regular forces of the organization.  IAWP 2014 will be marking this milestone during our final Gala Banquet at the RBC Convention Centre. 
 
The evening will begin with officers in historic uniforms from the RCMP, as well as Winnipeg Police Service, Brandon Police Service, and other partner agencies, to highlight the careers of all Manitoba law enforcement pioneers.
