Assault With A Weapon Arrest – C14-129009
On June 20, 2014 at approximately 2:00 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of an aggressive shoplifter at a store in the 400 block of River Avenue who, after having been apprehended, assaulted the 65 year old security officer and made good his escape.

The suspect ran north and while on the Osborne Street Bridge he assaulted two male pedestrians, 23 & 53 years of age, causing minor injury to both.

The suspect then ran into traffic, forcing vehicles to stop.  He damaged a van after which he was seen to run to the west side of the bridge and jump down onto the north bank of the Assiniboine River.

A member of the Winnipeg Police Forensics Services Unit, who had observed the incidents on the bridge, followed the suspect down to the river.  The officer was forced to utilize his pepper spray when, after being advised that he was under arrest, the suspect refused to comply with the officer's directions.  General Patrol members were quickly on scene to assist at which time the suspect produced a weapon, brandishing it at officers.  After repeated demands, the suspect eventually dropped the weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.

Alexander Allan Albert SANDERSON 25 years of Winnipeg has been charged with a multitude of offences for his alleged involvement.

He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
