COMMERCIAL BREAK-INS ARRESTS   C14-60033
Since March 24, 2014 members of the East District and West District Crime Units have been involved in an investigation regarding a crime spree where numerous businesses were broken into throughout the city.
 
The investigation has revealed that the suspect(s) would attend to a particular business and smash the front door glass to gain entry. Once inside, cash registers or safes were targeted and an undisclosed amount of cash was obtained.
 
Some of the businesses involved consist of, hair/beauty salons, food stores, fast food businesses and dry cleaners.
 
On April 9, 2014 at approximately 2:10 a.m., a business located on Fife Street was broken into. Patrol members, members of the Canine Unit and Air1 responded. As a result, a 38 year old male was taken into custody in the area of the 100 block of Salter Street.
 
Michel VERRIER, 38 years-old has been charged with the following due to his alleged involvement: Break Enter and Commit x 22, Break Enter with Intent x 6, Theft under $5000.00 and Possess Goods Obtained by Crime under $5000.00.
 
He was remanded into custody.
 
Later the same day, a 39 year-old female was arrested at a residence due to her alleged involvement. She is facing the following offences: Break Enter and Commit x 6, Theft under $5000.00 and Possess Goods Obtained by Crime under $5000.00.
 
She was released on a Promise to Appear.  
 
 
ASSAULT INVESTIGATION   C14-72851
On April 11, 2014 at approximately 1:10 a.m., a 19 year-old male had fallen asleep on a bench inside a bus shelter located in the area of Fort Street and Graham Avenue. It was at this time the male was confronted by a group of youths and assaulted causing serious injuries.
 
The victim was then robbed of his property and suspects fled the area.
 
A witness to the incident notified police and other emergency personnel. The victim is currently in unstable condition.
 
The suspects consisted of approximately six males and one female youth.     
 
Members of the Division 11 Crime Unit continue to investigate.
