Commercial Robberies - C14-50696 - C14-50860

As previously released - On March 11, 2014 just before 8:30 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 officers responded to a report of commercial robbery that had just occurred at a gas station within the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue.

During the incident, a lone male entered the store and loitered within for a short period of time before approaching the 24-year-old male clerk and demanding cash.  The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the store westbound on Notre Dame Avenue.

 

The clerk was not injured.  Police units attended and searched the area for the suspect, with negative results.

 

Suspect descriptors were provided to the public.

 

Then, at approximately 12:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to a commercial robbery that had occurred at a food mart in the 500 block of William Avenue by a lone suspect male.

 

Upon arrival officers learned that suspect male entered store, selected merchandise and attended to the counter.  Once there the suspect produced a knife and directed the female clerk to turn over money from the register. When another employee entered the suspect immediately fled the store.

The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit. As a result, Matthew STEVENS, 27 years-old was identified and arrested on April 22, 2014. He has been charged with the following offences due to his alleged involvement:

Robbery x 2, Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2.

He remains in custody.
