ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER UPDATE – ARREST
C12-32291
As previously released, on February 21st, 2012 at approximately 10:35 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 members were called to a shopping mall within the 300 block of Portage Avenue for a report of stabbing incident. 
 
Upon arrival, officers learned that the 24 year old male victim had been working as a security guard at the mall when he encountered a male loitering in a nearby bus shack. This male was asked to leave the premise but instead refused and became confrontational. The male attempted to assault the victim at which time the victim took hold of the suspect in order to restrain him. A knife was produced by the suspect and the victim was stabbed to the upper body. 
 
The suspect fled the area and police were notified.
 
Paramedics attended and transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition.  
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.
 
On March 16, 2012, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers came into contact with a male regarding an unrelated matter in the area of the 500 block of Main Street. As a result, the male was arrested.
 
After further investigation, it was discovered that the male in custody was allegedly involved in the stabbing incident dating back to February 21st.
 
Grant HOEFT, 21 years of age has been charged with: Assault with a Weapon, including other unrelated offences.
 
He has been detained.
 
 
ROBBERY INCIDENT – OFF DUTY ARREST C12-47544
On March 16, 2012, at approximately 5:05 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery incident in the area of the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West, involving an off duty WPS member.
 
At approximately 5:00 p.m., a male suspect entered a business and stole a quantity of merchandise. The suspect left the store without paying and was subsequently approached by the Loss Prevention Officer. It was at this time the suspect produced a knife and assaulted the 24 year old male LPO, causing injury. The suspect fled the area on foot which was observed by an off duty WPS member. The officer pursued the fleeing suspect in attempt to make an arrest however the suspect produced a knife, allowing him to escape custody. The off-duty member continued to pursue the suspect, and as a result of co-ordinated efforts involving uniform patrol members, the suspect was taken into custody a short time later.
 
Daniel THIOUX-ASSELIN, 28 years has been charged with the following:
 
·        Robbery with a Weapon
·        Escape Lawful Custody x 2
·        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
·        Assault a Peace Officer x 2
·        Possess Property Obtained by Crime x 2
·        Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance x 3
 
He has been detained.
 
 
STABBING C12-47792
On March 16, 2012, at approximately 11:17 p.m., officers responded to the area of the 500 block of Balmoral Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located an injured 18 year old male suffering from an upper body injury consistent with being stabbed. The victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition, later upgraded to stable condition.
 
Limited information is known at this time regarding the circumstances. One suspect is described as:
 
·        Male
·        Aboriginal in appearance
·        25 years of age
·        Wearing dark clothing
