Winnipeg Police Service News Release

SHOTS FIRED                                         C12-45863
On March 14th, 2012 shortly after 3:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service uniform officers responded to the area of the 1500 block of Notre Dame Avenue for reports of shots that were heard.  
 
A number of units, including a canine unit and Air1, attended to the area.  Division 11 uniform officers located an adult male near the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and St. James Street where he was taken into custody without incident.
 
At approximately 3:45 a.m. as a result of the coordinated efforts of Air1 and ground units, a second adult male was taken into custody within the 1700 block of St. James Street. 
 
At this stage in the investigation, officers have located evidence that a firearm discharge had occurred. There are no reports of any injuries.   
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. 
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION           C12-45880
On March 14th, 2012 at approximately 4:45 a.m. a Division 11 patrol unit observed a vehicle in the area of Erin Street and Notre Dame Avenue travelling at a high rate of speed.  Due to previous commitments officers did not pursue the vehicle but voiced the information to other units.     
 
A short time later police units came upon a single vehicle motor vehicle collision in a restaurant parking lot at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Sherbrook Street.  The vehicle, a 1994 Audi, had extensive damage.  A male was observed running away from this area.   
 
Officers and a canine unit located the male in a parking lot near the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Cumberland Avenue.  He was taken into custody without incident.      
 
 
This investigation is continuing.
 
  
COMMERICAL ROBBERY              C12-45827
On March 14th, 2012 at approximately 1:10 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 members responded to a restaurant in the area of Wilton Street and Grant Avenue for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that 2 males and 1 female had entered inside the premise.  The two male suspects approached the employees behind the counter while the female suspect remained near the entrance.  One male suspect produced a knife while the other male suspect was in possession of a hatchet.   
 
An undisclosed amount of cash was obtained.  Prior to leaving, one of the suspects caused damage to property within the premise.
 
There were no injuries during this incident. 
 
A track was initiated by the canine unit however the suspects were not located. 
 
The suspects, who had their identities disguised, are described as: 
 
Suspect #1: Male, approximately 6'0" – 6'4" tall with a slim build, wearing a black hoodie and light colored pants. 
 
Suspect #2: Male, approximately 5'7" tall with an average build, a light colored hoodie and light colored pants.
 
Suspect #3: Female, approximately 5'7" tall with an average build and a light colored jacket.

COMMERICAL ROBBERY                  C12-45723
On March 13th, 2012, at 8:50 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 12 uniform officers responded to a retail store within the 1700 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers met with the store employees and learned that a male and female had entered the store and began looking around.  Within minutes the male gathered some merchandise valued at approximately $500 and attended to the register area.  The male produced a knife and fled the store, being following by the female. 
 
The suspects are described as: 
 
Suspect #1: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 30 years of age, 6'0" tall with a large build, and long straight black hair.  He was wearing a dark winter coat.
 
Suspect #2: Female, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 20 years of age, 5'8" tall with a medium build and shoulder length dark hair with red highlights.  She was wearing a dress coat and dress pants.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit.  Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact 204-986-2839 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
