DRUG AND WEAPON ARRESTS C12-36936
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crimes Unit entered into an investigation where an emerging street level gang had been identified. Information gathered suggests that this group of individuals focused their criminal activity in the south end of the city involving drugs and weapons.
 
Due to the efforts of involved members, officers attended to a location in the area of Pembina Highway where these individuals were located.
 
On February 29, 2012, officers conducted three separate traffic stops resulting in the arrest of 7 males.
 
The investigation continued where a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team. A lone female occupant was located at that time and taken into custody.
 
Officers seized the following drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash and weapons:
 
·        52.8 grams of powder cocaine – estimated street value - $4280.00
·        42.8 grams of crack cocaine – estimated street value – $3860.00
·        25 Oxycotin pills – estimated street value $1000.00  
·        $2085.00 – Canadian Currency
·        1 Taser
·        1 knife
·        8 cellular phones
·        Packaging material, scales
 
The following individuals have been arrested and are facing numerous charges which include: CDSA (Cocaine), Possess Proceeds of Crime, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Possess Prohibited Weapon, including numerous breaches.
 
·        16 year old female
·        17 year old male
·        18 year old male
·        20 year old male
·        21 year old male
·        21 year old male
·        23 year old male
·        26 year old male
 
They have been detained at either the Provincial Remand Centre or the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY C12-37360
On February 29, 2012, at approximately 11:55 p.m., general patrol members responded to a residence in the area of Manhatten Avenue regarding a residential robbery.
 
Officers discovered that 3 occupants (18 year old female, 22 year old male, 22 year old female) were confronted after which time 3 or 4 suspects forced entry into the home.
 
The 22 year old female occupant was forced to the ground and physically assaulted to the upper body. Her injuries were minor in nature.
 
A small quantity of valuables was taken after which time the suspects fled in a vehicle.
 
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C12-37353
On February 29, 2012, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a business located in the 600 block of McPhillips Street regarding a robbery incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male suspect entered the store and confronted two employees, an 18 year old male and 36 year old male.
 
The suspect produced a weapon and threatened to harm the victims while demanding cash. An undisclosed amount of money was obtained by the suspect after which time he fled the area on foot.
 
No injuries were reported.
  
The suspect is described as: Male, unknown race, 20-22 years of age, 5'10" tall, thin build and clean shaven.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
