COMMERCIAL ROBBERY-ARREST C12-41417
Between February 16, 2012 and March 7, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation involving numerous commercial robberies.
 
The investigation has revealed that a lone male suspect entered several businesses and confronted the employee(s). It was at this time money was demand and an undisclosed amount was obtained. The businesses that were affected are as follows:
 
·        February 16 – 12:10 p.m. – Restaurant – 1500 block of Regent Avenue West
·        March 3 – 6:50 p.m. – Video Store – 300 block of Provencher Boulevard
·        March 5 – 10:50 a.m. – Video Store – 300 block of Provencher Boulevard
·        March 7 - 1:25 a.m. – Convenience Store – 100 block of Marion Street
·        March 7 - 1:30 a.m. – Restaurant – First 100 block of Goulet Street
·        March 7 - 8:40 a.m. – Gas Station – 1100 block of Nairn Avenue
 
No one was injured as a result of the incidents.
 
On March 7, 2012, at approximately 8:45 a.m., responding members conducted a traffic stop involving a taxi cab in the area of Nairn Avenue and Chester Street. A passenger was identified and subsequently taken into custody.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
 
Matthieu Joseph FORTIER, 25 years has been charged with: Robbery x 6 and Disguise with intent due to his alleged involvement.
 
He was detained.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C12-41814
On January 22, 2012, officers responded to a robbery incident at a store located in the 1400 block of Main Street.
 
It was discovered that a lone male suspect entered the business while armed with a knife, confronted an employee and demanded money. An undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise was obtained and the suspect made good his escape. No one was injured.
 
On January 24, 2012, an armed male suspect entered a store located in the 1300 block of Main Street and confronted an employee. Cash and merchandise was obtained and the suspect fled the area. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
 
On March 7, 2012, members of the Street Crimes Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team located the male suspect in the area of the 2000 block of Wellington Avenue and took him into custody.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
 
Brian Nathan BIRD, 27 years has been charged with: Robbery with a Weapon x 2 and Wear Disguise x 2 due to his alleged involvement. Two outstanding warrants were also executed as a result of his arrest.
 
He was detained.
 
 
STABBING C12-41889
On March 7, 2012, at approximately 10:30 p.m., uniform patrol members responded to the 400 block of Cumberland Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located a 36 year old male with injuries to his upper body.
 
The investigation has revealed that the victim had been working in the area when he observed a male attempting to break into a vehicle. It was at this time the suspect confronted the victim and stabbed him to the upper body. The suspect subsequently fled the area on foot.
  
The victim was conveyed to hospital, treated and released.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, light complexion, in his 20's, approximately 5'7" tall, medium build, short blonde hair, wearing grey clothing.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
