Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Friday, November 11th, 2011

  
DRUG AND WEAPON – ARREST C11-235782
On November 9th, 2011, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Cadets were patrolling in the area of Portage Avenue and Vaughan Street.
 
It was at this time members of the Cadet Unit stopped a male youth on a bicycle for a Highway Traffic Act offence. The investigation continued and the 17 year old male was found to be in possession of a canister of bear spray, including a quantity of marihuana. It was also learned that the male youth was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
 
Uniform members were notified and took custody of the male. He has been charged with:
 
·        Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance
·        Failure to Comply with Sentence x 3
·        Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
·        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
 
He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS C11-235603
On November 10th, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Green Team/Vice Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Uniform Patrol members; executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence located in the first 100 block of Ridgebury Place.
 
As a result, a large marihuana grow operation was located within the home which consisted of the following:
 
·        1524 marihuana plants - estimated value - $1,706,880.00
·        Grow operation equipment – estimated value - $40,000.00
 
Two males, 27 years and 25 years of age were located within the home and taken into custody.
  
They are facing the following charges:
 
·        Production of Controlled Substance
·        Possessing Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
·        Theft of Telecommunications
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear.
 
 
STABBING C11-237106
On November 11th, 2011, at approximately 1:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the 200 block of Rietta Street regarding a male that had been stabbed.
 
Attending members located a 39 year old male with upper body injuries, who was transported to hospital in critical condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit, where several individuals are currently being interviewed.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
 
 
SHOTS C11-236874
On November 10th, 2011, just prior to midnight, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Balmoral Street regarding the sound of shots heard in the area.
 
No damage or injuries have been reported at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
FIRE C11-236452
On November 10th, 2011, at approximately 12:50 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working garage fire at the rear of the 200 block of Cathedral Avenue.
 
As a result of the fire, a garage was completely destroyed. A vehicle and neighbouring garage also sustained damage. No one was injured.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force have been notified.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
