FIRE UPDATE – HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C11-237836
On November 12th, 2011, at approximately 2:10 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a building located in the 300 block of Carlton Street.
 
While efforts continued to extinguish the fire, emergency crews located an adult male within the building suffering from upper body injuries. The male was conveyed to hospital in critical condition but has since succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
The victim has been identified as: Harry Wellington GEGWETCH, 42 years of age.  
 
Members of the Homicide Unit and Arson Strike Force are continuing to investigate. An autopsy is pending.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON - UPDATE – ARREST C11-237891
As previously released, on November 12th, 2011, at approximately 4:15 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 800 block of Selkirk Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.
 
Attending members located an injured 42 year old male who was suffering from upper body injuries consistent with being stabbed. He was conveyed to hospital and is currently in stable condition.
 
The investigation has revealed that while the victim was making an effort to have several partygoers leave his residence, a physical altercation ensued. It was at this time a 17 year old male produced a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The suspect fled the residence prior to police arrival.   
 
Members of the District 3 Crime Unit continued with the investigation and arrested the 17 year old male suspect in the area of the 500 block of Spence Street. He has been charged with: Assault with a Weapon and Fail to Comply with Sentence x 3.
 
He was detained. The investigation is continuing.
