THEFT AND FRAUD INVESTIGATION – ARRESTS
C11-233261
On November 5th, 2011, at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were contacted regarding a theft of a purse and its contents from a vehicle which occurred in the area of the 1200 block of St. Anne's Road. The victim observed a suspect vehicle flee the area and reported same to police.  
 
At approximately 7:00 p.m., while in the area of Regal Avenue and St. Anne's Road, members of the WPS Canine Unit observed the suspect vehicle travelling northbound with two occupants.
 
Officers followed the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect failed to comply, making every effort to evade police. A pursuit was initiated. The suspect vehicle was observed to be operated at a high rate of speed having no regarding for public safety.
 
The suspect vehicle proceeded through a stop sign at the intersection of Lyndale Drive and St. Mary's Road striking an uninvolved northbound vehicle.
 
The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene of the collision. The passenger immediately fled the area on foot however, was tracked by Canine with the assistance of Uniform Patrol members and taken into custody. Both suspects sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. 
 
The driver of the uninvolved vehicle was not injured.
 
The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.
 
Trent Nicholas MINSKI, 27 years has been charged due to his alleged involvement with the following: Personation with Intent, Flight from Police, Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance x 3, Theft Under $5000.00, Possess Property Obtained by Crime x 2, Possess, Procure to be made, Transfer, Sell or Offer to Sell an Identity Document x 2 and Fail to Comply with Condition of Recognizance; Including multiple outstanding Warrants for Theft, Fraud and Court Order Breaches dating back to September 2011.
 
MINSKI has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
The passenger, a 27 year old male is facing several theft and drug related offences. He was released on a Promise to Appear.  
 
ARSON – ARREST C11-233542
On November 6th, 2011, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Flight Operations Unit (Air1) were patrolling in the area of the 400 block of Simcoe Street when they observed a large vehicle fire that had just been set. Uniform members were notified and began attending to the area.
 
Air1 further advised that they had located a possible suspect hiding nearby. The suspect was then observed by the Flight Operations Unit to attend to a second vehicle and light it on fire, subsequently fleeing the area.
 
Due to coordinated efforts by officers involved, the suspect was apprehended in the area of the 700 of Beverley Street.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force were notified and continued with the investigation.
 
A 17 year old male has been charged with: Arson – Damage to Property x 2, Possession Incendiary Material, Possess Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x 3 and Possess/Consume liquor under 18 years of age.   
 
He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C11-233262
On November 5th, 2011, at approximately 6:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a sporting goods store located in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue regarding a robbery event.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male customer attempted to leave with merchandise making no effort to pay. A confrontation subsequently occurred involving a 37 year old male employee. During the altercation, threats were made by the suspect who was also in possession of a knife at the time.
 
The suspect was restrained until which time police attended and took custody of the male.
 
Darcy Channing William KENT, 22 years has been charged with: Robbery with a Weapon and Breach of Probation. He was detained.
