Winnipeg Police Service News Release

SUSPICIOUS DEATH- HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION      C11-150908
As previously released, on Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at approximately 12:20 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service along with emergency medical responders were dispatched to a residence within the 500 block of Redwood Avenue for a report of suspicious circumstances. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female within the residence with upper body injuries, consistent with being physically assaulted.  An autopsy has yet to be performed.
 
The victim has been identified as Cara Lynn HIEBERT, 31 years of Winnipeg.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit are continuing with this investigation.  Anyone who has information regarding this incident is asked to call investigators at 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 786- TIPS (8477).
 
 
BODY LOCATED IN RIVER                        C11-151083
On Tuesday, July 19th, 2011 at 4:45 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members along with emergency service responders were dispatched to the area of Juba Park, near Waterfront Drive and Alexander Avenue for a report of body within the river. 
 
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Fire Department removed the body, believed to be that of an adult male, from the water. 
 
Efforts are ongoing at this time to positively identify the deceased male. 
 
 
STABBING INVESTIGATION                           C11-151466
On Wednesday, July 20th, 2011 shortly after 2:00 a.m. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service along with Winnipeg Paramedics responded to the 600 block of Wellington Avenue for a report of a female that had just been stabbed.
 
Upon arrival officers located a 54 year old female victim, and learned that she had been walking in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Maryland Street when she was approached by 3 suspects, 2 females and one male, who demanded she turn over her property. 
 
The victim declined and continued to walk northbound on Maryland Avenue where she approached another male walking in the area.  As the male entered an apartment block near Wellington Avenue and Maryland Street the suspects again approached the victim with one of the suspects producing a knife.  A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed in the upper body area. 
 
The suspects fled the area with the victim's purse and police were contacted. 
 
Numerous officers, including the canine unit, searched the area however the suspects were not located.  Recovery of some of the victim's property was located during the track by the canine unit. 
 
The victim was transported to the hospital in unstable and has since been upgraded to stable condition. 
 
The suspects are described as follows: 
 
Suspect 1: Female, Aboriginal in appearance, 16 years of age, approximately 5'10" tall with a thin build and shoulder length brown hair. 
 
Suspect 2: Female, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 16 to 20 years of age, 5'4" tall with short brown hair.  
 
Suspect 3: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, approximately 13 to 14 years of age with shoulder length brown hair.
