Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Monday, July 4th, 2011 

 
MALE SHOT C11-139279
On July 4th, 2011 at approximately 3:45 a.m., numerous police resources responded to a residence located in the first 100 block of Taft Crescent regarding the sound of shots in the area.
 
Attending members discovered that adjoining residences sustained damage as a result of a firearm discharge. As a result of the incident, a 14 year old male was shot to the lower body while inside one of the residences. He was transported to hospital in stable condition where he remains at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Organized Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6048 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
WEAPONS ARREST C11-138367
On July 2nd, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Division 11 uniform members initiated a traffic stop in the area of Portage Avenue and Arlington Street involving a pick-up truck.
 
Officers subsequently located the following items within the vehicle:
 
  • 13 Detonators
  • A variety of ammunition
For public safety reasons, investigating members closed east and westbound Portage Avenue between Home Street and Arlington Street for a period of time.
 
A 21 year old male was taken into custody and is now facing several weapon, ammunition and explosive related offences. He was also issued two Provincial Offence Notices as a result of his manner of driving and failure to produce a driver's licence.
 
Members of the Organized Crime Unit with the assistance of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) continued with the investigation at which time three additional firearms were seized.
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.  
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – HIT AND RUN INVESTIGATION C11-101867
In May, 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service became involved in a hit and run investigation which occurred in the area of the first 100 block of Orchard Hill Drive.
 
Attending members learned that a 37 year old male was walking his dog on May 19th at 9:50 p.m. on Orchard Hill Drive when a westbound vehicle struck both the pedestrian and dog. The vehicle sped off.
 
As a result of the incident, the dog succumbed to injuries sustained. The male pedestrian was conveyed to hospital for upper and lower body injuries.
 
No arrest has been made at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
 
A hubcap from the suspect vehicle was located and seized including several surveillance photographs.
