Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Tuesday, July 5th, 2011 

 
PURSUIT OF WANTED MALE - ARREST C11-139401
On July 4th, 2011 at approximately 10:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a green Oldsmobile believed to be operated by a wanted male in the area of Carlton Street and Portage Avenue.
 
As a result, officers initiated a traffic stop in the area of the 200 block of Carlton Street. As the members approached the vehicle on foot, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.
 
The suspect was observed driving erratically while disobeying several traffic control devices having no regard for public safety. The suspect struck an unoccupied parked car near Kennedy Street and St. Mary Avenue making no attempt to stop. He then struck a second unoccupied park truck in the area of Cornish Avenue and Middlegate Street. Again, he made no attempt to stop for police.
 
The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle and stopped in the front yard of the first 100 block of Middlegate Street. He fled the area on foot but was apprehended moments later.
 
Benjamin Kirk MACKENZIE, 41 years has been charged with the following offences as a result of his alleged involvement: Warrant to apprehend, Dangerous operation – Motor vehicle, HTA – Fail to remain at the scene of an accident and exchange particulars x 2, Flight from police officer, Possessing substance for the purpose of trafficking and Possess Proceeds of crime.
 
He was detained.       
 
 
STABBING C11-139843
On July 4th, 2011 at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing incident located in the 1300 block of Main Street.
 
Attending members observed other emergency personnel tending to an injured 49 year old male. It was learned that the victim and a 34 year old female became involved in a confrontation with two unknown males. As a result of the incident, the victim was physically assaulted and stabbed to the upper body.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to stable condition.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
STABBING C11-13988
On July 5th, 2011 at approximately 3:20 a.m., uniform members responded to the area of Sargent Avenue and Sherbrook Street regarding a female that had been stabbed.
 
Attending members located an injured 38 year old female suffering from stab wounds to her upper body. She was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition, but later upgraded to stable condition.
 
The victim is not forthcoming with information, however the investigation is continuing.
 
 
STABBING C11-140013
On July 5th, 2011 at approximately 4:35 a.m., officers responded to a stabbing incident in the area of the 200 block of Broadway.
 
An injured 42 year old male was located in the area and subsequently transported to hospital in stable condition. The victim was stabbed to the lower body by an unknown male. He could not provide any further details.
 
The investigation is continuing.
