Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  MONDAY, JANUARY 24th, 2011

  
WARRANT EXECUTED- COMMERICAL ROBBERIES ARRESTS    C11-15875
On January 22nd, 2011 at approximately 4:25 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred at a convenience store within the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.
 
A male and a female suspect, with their identities disguised and armed with knives, entered the store and confronted the female clerks, demanding money.   
 
After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cigarettes, both suspects fled the store to an awaiting vehicle.   
 
Then at approximately 5:10 a.m., Members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a convenience store within the 700 block of Mountain Avenue for a report of commercial robbery. 
 
Upon arrival it was learned that three suspects, two males and one female, all of whom have their identities disguised, entered the store and proceeded to the cash register area. At one point, one of the male suspects produced a handgun and after receiving an undisclosed amount of the cash and cigarettes, the three suspects fled the store to an awaiting vehicle.   
 
There were no reports of injuries in either of these incidents.
 
A short time later, patrolling Uniform Officers located a vehicle believed to be involved in the commission of these offences. A residence within the 200 block of Reitta Street was surrounded and the Tactical Support Team assisted in the execution of the search warrant. 
 
Just before 10:00 a.m. a number of individuals exited the house and were taken into custody without incident. 
 
The following individuals are now facing charges for their alleged involvement in these incidents:
 
Nathaniel Leroy BLACKBIRD 35 years of Winnipeg
Robbery with Firearm
Robbery with Weapon
Disguise with Intent X 2
Possession of Goods Obtained By Crime (Under $5000)
Fail to comply with conditions of Recognizance X 2
 
Shanastene Irene MCLEOD 21 years of Winnipeg
Robbery with Firearm
Robbery with Weapon
Disguise with Intent X 2
Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime (Under $5000)
Breach of Probation X 2
Fail to comply with conditions of Recognizance X 6
 
Julian CHOKEN 37 years of Winnipeg
Robbery with Firearm
Disguise with Intent
Possession of Goods Obtained by Crime (Under $5000)
Fail to comply with conditions of Recognizance X 2
 
All three individuals have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON- ARRESTS             C11-14888
As previously released, on January 21st, 2011 at approximately 8:25 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service along with Emergency Responders attended to a hotel in the 800 block of Main Street for a report of a stabbing.
 
Four suspects, three males and one female, approached the 33 year old male victim. After a brief conversation the victim is physically assaulted by the suspects. The male victim received numerous stab wounds to the upper body area.  This assault was stopped by other patrons who come to the victim's aid and the suspects fled the scene. 
 
The victim was subsequently transported to the hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.
 
As a result of an investigation by Members of the Division 13 Crime Unit, on January 22nd, 2011 at approximately 1:00 a.m., officers attended to the area of Austin Street North and Euclid Avenue where the suspects were arrested without incident. 
 
The following individuals are facing charges for their alleged involvement in this incident:
 
Sheldon Donovan MUSWAGON, 23 years, John Alfred SCOTT, 18 years and Ryan Scott HARPER, 18 years, all from Winnipeg, have been charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
 
SCOTT, MUSWAGON and HARPER were detained in custody, while the 16 year old female has been released on a Promise to Appear.  
 
 
OUTSTANDING MALE- ARRESTED                  C10-196556
On November 5th, 2010 the Winnipeg Police Service had requested the public's assistance in located a male wanted on an outstanding warrant for charges of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. 
 
On January 22nd, 2011, Stephen Lee Donavon HOULE, 19 YEARS of Winnipeg was located and arrested on the strength of the warrant. 
 
HOULE was detained in custody. 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank the media and the members of the public for their assistance. 
 
 
COMMERCIAL BREAK AND ENTERS                  C11-16311
Recently the Winnipeg Police Service has investigated an increasing number of commercial break and enters that have occurred during the late night, or early morning hours. In many instances the front window or door of a business is smashed by the suspect(s) in order to gain access.
 
Once inside the thieves quickly gather anything of value prior fleeing the scene. Often the value of goods that are stolen is minimal in comparison to the cost of the damages the businesses.
 
Anyone who may have information regarding this type of incident, or any suspicious activity during these hours is asked to contact any police station or Crimestoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
