Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

 SUNDAY, JANUARY 16th, 2011

1:00 p.m.
 
 
INJURED MALE- HOMICIDE ARRESTS     C11-10508
As previously released, on Saturday, January 15th, 2011, at approximately 9:00 a.m. Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to an area within the 300 block of Redwood Avenue for a report of an injured male. 
 
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, who appeared to have been assaulted, outside in the rear yard of a residence.  Emergency Service Responders attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition.
 
During the early morning hours of January 16th, 2011 the Winnipeg Police Service was notified that the male victim had succumbed to his injuries.  The victim has been identified as Zenon Sylvester BOZYNSKI, 48 years of Winnipeg.

As a result of an investigation lead by members of the Homicide Unit, the following individuals are now facing charges for their alleged involvement in this incident. 
 
Jamie Jossens MORRISSEAU, 27 years of Winnipeg and Gamielle William Harry COURCHENE, 25 years of Fort Alexander, Manitoba have both been charged with 2nd Degree Murder. 
 
Both males have been detained that the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL BREAK AND ENTER- ARRESTS   C11-10925
On January 15th, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received information regarding suspicious activity in the area of the 1st 100 block of Bannerman Avenue. 
 
Two Winnipeg Police Service Canine Units, who were patrolling nearby responded and initiated a search of the neighbourhood.  Observant area residents informed officers that they had seen two suspicious males who were walking down the street carrying a television and a computer monitor. 
 
Believing that a residential break and enter had just occurred, officers deployed a police service dog and began searching the area. 
 
A short time later, officers located the television and the computer monitor outside a rear gate of a residence and then spotted two male suspects running from the front street of this location. 
 
Both officers immediately pursued the suspects, eventually bringing the first suspect into custody with in the 1st 100 block of St Cross Street.   Minutes later, the second suspect was located by the police service dog hiding near a residence within the same block.    
 
Daniel Arthur JOHNSON, 21 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
 
-          Break and Enter- Commit indictable offence
-          Possess Weapon Dangerous Purpose
-          Carry a Concealed Weapon
-          As well as breaching the conditions of 2 court orders
 
Jeffery LACKNER 21 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Break and Enter- commit indictable offence.
 
Both males, allegedly responsible for this incident, have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
