Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  SATURDAY, JANUARY 22nd, 2011

 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERIES- ARREST                  C11-14430
On January 21st, 2011 at approximately 7:15 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred to a convenience store located in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue by a suspect male armed with a knife. 
 
The suspect male entered the store and demanded money from the 45 year female clerk.  He fled the store prior to anything being obtained.
 
Later that morning at approximately 7:50 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a convenience store within the 800 block of Arlington Street for a report of commercial robbery that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that a suspect male, armed with a knife, had entered the store and demanded money from the 55 year old female clerk. As this was occurring another store employee became aware the incident and the suspect fled the store empty handed. 
 
Numerous units responded to the area and began searching for the suspect and at approximately 11:20 a.m., patrolling Division 11 Officers located and arrested the suspect male at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Smith Street without incident. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit, this suspect male is alleged to be responsible for the additional commercial robberies: 
 
-          On April 28th, 2007 at approximately 4:30 a.m. a convenience store in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue
-          On April 29th, 2007 at approximately 11:30 p.m. a convenience store in the 500 block of William Avenue 
-          On April 30th, 2007 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a convenience store located in the 800 block of Arlington Street. 
 
During the commission of the above noted incidents the suspect male was armed with a knife and received an undisclosed amount of money.  There were no injuries sustained to any of the store employees.
 
Ralph Joseph LINKLATER, 36 years of Winnipeg has been charged with two counts of Robbery with a weapon as well as the outstanding warrant for the previous three counts of Robbery with a weapon. 
 
LINKLATER was detained in custody.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARREST                  C11-149771
On January 21st, 2011, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 Uniform Members responded to a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred to a business within the 1st 100 block of Osborne Street. 
 
Upon arrival officers learned that a male suspect, having his identity disguised and while carrying a knife, attended to the cash register area and demanded money from the 35 year old female clerk.  The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store. 
 
Patrolling Officers began searching the immediate area and located the suspect in the area of the Osborne Street Bridge. 
 
Nolan Ray COUTU, 30 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:
 
-          Robbery with a weapon
-          Wear disguise with intent, and
-          Breach of Probation
 
He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON- ARRESTS                    C11-14888
On January 21st, 2011 at approximately 8:25 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service along with Emergency Responders attended to a hotel in the 800 block of Main Street for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred. 
 
Upon arrival officers located a 33 year old male victim suffering from stab wounds.  This victim was subsequently transported to the hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.
 
A number of individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident.  This investigation is continuing by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit.
