Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  SUNDAY, JANUARY 23rd, 2011

11:00 a.m.
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION- GROW OPERATION                            C11-4892
On January 22nd, 2011 at approximately 4:45 p.m. Emergency Services Responders attended to a residence within the 1300 block of William Avenue for a report of a residential house fire.
 
Upon arrival, Officers located a 29 year old male who had sustained injuries in connection with this incident.  He was transported to the hospital in unstable condition by Winnipeg Paramedics.
 
As the Winnipeg Fire Department was extinguishing the fire, a marihuana grow operation was discovered within the residence and the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit was called into assist. 
 
Subsequent investigation by the Drug Unit has resulted in the following items being seized:
 
  • Approximately 710 Cannabis Marihuana Plants, with an estimated street value of $800,000.00, and
  • Assorted Grow Operation Equipment, estimated at $20,000.00.
This investigation will be continuing by members of the Drug Unit.  At this time no charges have been laid. 
 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION- GROW OPERATION                    R11-4898
On January 22nd, 2011 at approximately 7:30 p.m. Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to a residence within the 700 block of Clifton Street for a working fire. 
 
Upon arrival, a 50 year old male was located and subsequently transported to the hospital in stable condition.
 
While the Winnipeg Fire Department was extinguishing the fire, a marihuana grow operation was discovered within the residence. 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit was called in to assist in dismantling the grow operation.  Through the course of their investigation a large quantity of cannabis marihuana plant material and approximately $1,500.00 in assorted equipment was seized.
 
This investigation is continuing by Uniform Members of Division 11.
