Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  THURSDAY, JANUARY 13th, 2011 

 

SUSPICIOUS PERSON                                   C11-8572
On Wednesday, January 12th, 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were summoned to the Elmwood area of Winnipeg regarding a suspicious person.
 
The investigation has revealed that on the same date at approximately 4:00 p.m., an 11 year old female was walking in the area of Riverton Avenue and Watt Street when she was approached by an unknown male.  This male proceeded to take hold of the victim's arm at which time the victim pulled away and fled the area. 
 
The victim was not injured as a result of the encounter.
 
The suspect is described as follows:
- Approximately 6'0" tall with an average build.  He was wearing a black parka with brown fur on the hood, black baggy pants, a black ski mask and black finger gloves.
 
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM
On Friday, January 14th, 2011, the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit will be kicking off a pilot Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. 
 
As a result of consultations with stakeholders such as the Manitoba Public Insurance and Security Services from the University of Manitoba, the Winnipeg Police Service will be deploying dedicated traffic resources in the area Bishop Grandin Boulevard, between Waverley Street and St. Anne's Road, as well in the area of the University of Manitoba.  This enforcement program will occur during the evening and early morning hours on Friday, January 14th, 2011.
 
The focus of these resources will be as follows:
 
-          Identify and arrest impaired drivers
-          Identify and stop motorists who are speeding, and driving in a dangerous fashion.  
 
The goal of this pilot program is to work with our stakeholders to identify areas of the City of Winnipeg which require selective enforcement, to inform the public, and to promote responsible driving practices. 
 
 
 
MISSING PERSON – SHAINE OLSON-TRYON R11-2263
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 15 year old female, Shaine OLSON-TRYON.  She was last seen on January 12th, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. in the Downtown area of Winnipeg.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service considers OLSON-TRYON to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.
 
 

  

 
OLSON-TRYON is described as Caucasian, 5'3" tall, 125 pounds, with long straight blonde hair and blue/green eyes.  OLSON-TRYON was last seen wearing a black winter parka with blue jeans and black shoes.  
 
Anyone with information regarding OLSON-TRYON's whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service - Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.
