Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

PIXELS FOR PISTOLS PROGRAM A HUGE SUCCESS!

The Winnipeg Police Service and the City of Winnipeg are committed to addressing gun violence in our city. We recognize that this commitment requires the community to do their part to surrender firearms and assist in keeping the City of Winnipeg a safe place to live.

Citizens of Winnipeg have responded tremendously by surrendering over 1700 firearms and approximately 13,000 rounds of ammunition to police during the month of November as a result of the Pixels for Pistols campaign.

"Pixels for Pistols has been the most successful voluntary firearms collection program in the City of Winnipeg's history," said Mayor Sam Katz. "On behalf of City Council, I thank Henry's and Panasonic for taking the initiative to offer this program to the City of Winnipeg. I also thank every citizen who contacted the Winnipeg Police Service and participated in the program in order to make our City a safer place."

The Winnipeg Police Service and The City of Winnipeg are proud to have partnered with Henry's Photo-Video-Digital and Panasonic. This community partnership has resulted in the safe recovery and disposal of unwanted firearms and ammunition by citizens.

The removal of these unwanted firearms from our community has eliminated the possibility of them ever getting into the hands of the criminal element.

"This is a perfect example of what can happen when you partner with the community. Thank you to Henry's and Panasonic for their leadership in corporate caring and responsibility to the community," said Chief Devon Clunis.

The Winnipeg Police Service and the City of Winnipeg would like to thank the citizens of Winnipeg for participating including members of the media for their support.
