Suspicious Male Update – C15-70750
As previously released, on April 9, 2015, at approximately 9:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched for the report of a suspicious male in the 300 block of Kingston Crescent.

Officers spoke with the complainant who advised that around 7:15 p.m. his daughters, aged 7 & 10 years, were playing at Kingston Park with other neighbourhood children.  An unknown male in a pick-up truck pulled up and called the children over, showing them a cat.  The male told the children he had found the cat and wanted them to go with him to help locate its home.   A nearby parent attended and began questioning the male who then fled in the truck.

A suspect and vehicle description, including the Firefighter specialty licence plate was provided.

The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.

On April 13, 2015, the investigator assigned received a phone call from a male who advised that he had seen the media release and that it was he who had been involved in the incident and identified himself as a City of Winnipeg fire fighter.  He went on to say that while on his way to meet a friend in the area of Churchill Drive he came into contact with a cat that appeared lost. The male took the cat with hopes to take it to a shelter or find the rightful owner.

Prior to attending to his friend's residence, the male stopped in the area and spoke to an area resident about the lost cat. That resident took the cat as one of his kids was interested in keeping it should the rightful owner not be located.

The actions of the male, who initially located the cat, were perceived as suspicious by other area residents and reported to police. As a result of the investigation, nothing criminal or inappropriate occurred.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank members of the public and media for their assistance in this matter.
