Shooting Update - Arrest C14-144814
As previously released, on July 10, 2014 at approximately 1:15 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service attended to the area of Graham Avenue and Carlton Street for the report of a fight.
Upon arrival Tactical Support Team members observed a male suspect discharge a firearm. The suspect was immediately taken into custody without further incident. The firearm was recovered.
The 20 year old male victim was taken by friends to the hospital in critical condition. He was later upgraded to stable.
Keanu ALGABRE, 19 years, of Winnipeg has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm along with several other firearms related offences for his alleged involvement. He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
Fatal Fire - C14-143593
On July 8, 2014 at approximately 2:15 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services were dispatched to a parking lot in the area of Logan Avenue and Lizzie Street for the report of a semi-trailer on fire.
During suppression efforts a 44 year old male was located inside the trailer suffering from fire related injuries. He was transported to HSC in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries
The identity of the victim is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6813 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
Robbery Arrest C14-145085
On July 10, 2014 shortly before 12:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the areal of Autumnwood Drive and Cottonwood Road for the report of a male having been robbed at gunpoint.
Responding members met with the 45 year old victim who advised that he had been sitting in a bus shelter when he was approached by an unknown male armed with a gun. The male robbed the victim of personal property and discharged the gun in his direction. The victim was not injured and was able to provide officers with a suspect description.
At approximately 12:40 p.m. officers located the suspect in the 900 block of Winakwa Road where he was taken into custody without incident.
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit who were able to link the suspect to four other incidents. They include:
- Theft from motor vehicle between July 9 & 10 in the 900 block of Betournay Street
- Commercial Robbery on July 10 at approximately 2:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Autumnwood Drive no injuries, undisclosed amount of money stolen
- Person robbery on July 10 at approximately 11:45 a.m. in the 1st 100 block of Lakewood Boulevard no injuries, nothing stolen
- Person robbery on July 10 at approximately 11:50 a.m. in the 1st 100 block of Lakewood Boulevard no injuries, nothing stolen
A search warrant was later executed at the suspect's residence in the 900 block of Niakwa Road where property related to the robberies along with the CO2 pellet gun used during the offences were located and seized.
Travis Allin NICOL, 22 years, of Winnipeg is facing a multitude of firearms and robbery related offences for his alleged involvement.
He was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
Weapons Arrests C14-144493
Recently, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit along with members of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) became involved in a weapons investigation. As a result, a Firearms Search Warrant was applied for and granted for a residence in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.
On July 10, 2014 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Street Crime & District 3 Community Support members, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed the warrant.
Four people located within the residence were arrested without incident.
The search resulted in the seizure of the following:
- Mossberg International Model 715T .22 calibre rifle
- Ross Rifle Company .303 calibre rifle
- Walther CP88 .177 calibre pellet pistol
- Ammunition
- Bear spray
- Brass knuckles
- 284 grams of marihuana with an estimated street value of $2840.00
- $20.00 in Canadian currency
Taylor Lynn Ashton (f), 19 years, Aaron Richard PAQUIN, 20 years & Mathew Earle MONACO, 21 years, all of Winnipeg have been charged with several drug and weapons related offences for their alleged involvement.
All three were detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
A 19 year old male from Winnipeg is facing a charge of Possession of a Scheduled Substance Cannabis (Marihuana).
He was released via a Promise to Appear.
