SKATES & BADGES MEET IN CENTRAL PARK

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

For Immediate Release

Winnipeg, MB On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Central Park (Cumberland & Edmonton) theWinnipeg Police Service, Central Neighbourhoods Development Corporation and West End BIZ will facilitate a learn-to-skate event for inner-city youth and families. The 5th  annual "Skates and Badges" will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Skates will be available for use and members of theWPS Patrolmen Hockey Team will be on hand to help and encourage learners. Hot refreshments and hot dogs will be served. Everyone is welcome!

This is an opportunity to introduce a favourite Canadian outdoor winter activity, while building relations with community youth and residents.

Event partner Allan Wise of CNDC says, "This is the 5th year of the event which brings the local schools, agencies, businesses, and the police together.  This goes to show the ongoing commitment by the local stakeholders to the central neighbourhoods where we work, live and play."

Central Park, a historic part of the West End, saw a multi-million dollar renovation over the last couple of years. Winter sports facilities were incorporated into the park's redesign. The park has been embraced by the community and is now a well-used and appreciated recreation facility year round.

Skates & Badges would not be possible without the contributions of our partner organizations, businesses, individuals and volunteers that stepped forward to make it happen and we gratefully acknowledge their generosity.
