FIREARM INVESTIGATION – ARREST   C13-249828
In November 2009, a residence located in the 400 block of Nairn Avenue was broken into and a shotgun was stolen.
 
On December 5, 2013 at 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a residence on McKenzie Street regarding a disturbance and the report of a gun seen.
 
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male in possession of a shotgun. The male was safely taken into custody and the weapon was seized.
 
The investigation continued by members of the District 3 Crime Unit. The youth was eventually turned over to members of the Major Crimes Unit for further processing. 
 
A 14 year-old male has been charged with the following offences and detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre:

  • Careless use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Firearm knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 2
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Disposition x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00


MALE SHOT UPDATE – ARREST   C13-224615
As previously released, on November 1, 2013 at 4:05 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding the report of an individual shot.
 
A 23 year old male was located with an injury consistent with being shot. He was last listed in stable condition.
 
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It was learned that the incident was a result of an on-going rivalry between street gangs.

On December 5, 2013, a 14 year-old male was arrested for his alleged involvement and charged with:

  • Attempted Murder while Using Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Point Firearm
  • Use of a Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Breach of Probation x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance

He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 

ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER – ARREST   C13-250457
On December 5, 2013 at approximately 10:15 p.m., a black Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from the rear of a residence located in the 500 block of Whittier Avenue.
 
At approximately 10:40 p.m., Patrol members observed the stolen truck and lone occupant while in the area of Kildare Avenue East and Widlake Street. Officers successfully stopped the truck at which time the suspect attempted to flee by reversing at a high rate of speed. One officer was forced to run behind the cruiser to avoid being struck by the suspect. The stolen truck collided with the cruiser causing significant damage. The suspect continued in reverse and deflected off the cruiser into a nearby pole. 
 
A 16 year-old male was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon
  • Flight while pursued by a Peace Officer
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • HTA – Drive without a License – invalid
  • HTA – Drive without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance

He was detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
