2013 FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM
Today, in partnership with Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, the Winnipeg Police Service will begin its 2013 Festive Season CheckStop program.  This campaign is dedicated to reducing the number of impaired driving offences that occur within the City of Winnipeg.

Impaired driving is the number one criminal cause of death in Canada, yet it is 100% preventable.

Through the month of December, including New Year's Eve, motorists can expect to see an increased presence of police officers on our roadways.  Involved officers will be enforcing Impaired Driving legislation, focusing on areas where alcohol is being consumed such as: bars, restaurants, Christmas parties and socials.

As an added deterrence, the names of drivers charged with impaired driving related offences will once again be made public.

The Winnipeg Police Service encourages all motorists to have a plan in place before you go out this holiday season.

Taking a cab or a bus, contacting Operation Red Nose or simply identifying a designated driver, are some options to consider.

The message is simple, if you choose to drink, DON'T DRIVE.

If a member of the public observes a suspected impaired driver, they are encouraged to contact 911 immediately.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Festive Season.
