UPDATE - HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - ARREST C12-58014
As previously released, on March 31, 2012 at approximately 7:40 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members and emergency services responders were dispatched to an area within the 200 block of Balmoral Street for a report of male found lying in a yard.
Upon arrival, a deceased adult male was located.
The victim was identified as Johnathen James FELIX, 21 years of Winnipeg.
A lengthy investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit.
During the early morning hours of March 31, 2012, the victim became involved in a drug transaction with a group of males when an argument erupted. As a result, one of the males produced a gun and discharged it in the direction of FELIX striking him. The suspects fled the area.
On January 10, 2013 at approximately 2:10 p.m., Derek Davin MERRICK, 19 years of age was located and arrested. He has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder due to his alleged involvement.
He was detained.
The investigation is continuing.
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C13-006753
On January 10, 2013, at approximately 7:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of the 800 block of Century Street regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving two pedestrians and a semi-truck.
Attending members located a 22 year old female pedestrian with serious injuries. She was conveyed from the scene in critical condition. A 24 year old female pedestrian was also located suffering from minor injuries. She has since been treated and released.
A 47 year old male driver of the semi-truck (white Freightliner) was not injured.
At this time, it has been determined that the two pedestrians were walking northbound on Century Street between Wellington Avenue and Dublin Avenue when they were struck by a northbound semi-truck.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
GROW OPERATION ARRESTS R13-002448
On January 10, 2013, members of the WPS Drug Unit with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Division 16 Uniform Patrol members executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence located in the first 100 block Lindenwood Drive East.
Upon entry, a male a female were locate and arrested. A search of the premises revealed the following seized items:
1296 Marihuana Plants - estimated street value $1,451,520.00
½ lb. Dry Marihuana estimated street value $1,500.00
Grow Operation Equipment - $30,000.00
A 50 year old male and 49 year old female are facing the following charges: Production of Controlled Substance, Possessing Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Theft of Telecommunications and Theft Over.
Both were released on a promise to Appear.
