NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG DROP OFF DAY

Thank You Winnipeg!

Cleaning out the medicine cabinet helps keep our community safe and environment clean.

Thank you to everyone who to took some time to clean out their medicine cabinets and disposed of their unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs as part of National Prescription Drug Drop-off Day on Saturday, May 11.

We collected 107 pounds of such medication through our Winnipeg Police Service Centres.

That is

  • 107 pounds of medication that will not find its way into our landfill and water table.
  • 107 pounds of medication that will not be accessible to unsuspecting young people wishing to experiment, putting themselves in harm's way.

Notable among the medications dropped off was a sizable supply of Tylenol 3 and Oxycontin.

National Prescription Drug Drop-off Day was an initiative coordinated by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and is being held in partnership with the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, Public Safety Canada and law enforcement agencies across the country.

Please note: The proper disposal of medication is available year round at participating pharmacies. For more information visit medicationsreturn.ca.
