SUSPICIOUS PERSON – C13-081448
On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a suspicious person.
 
Officers met with a 12 year old female who advised that at approximately 9:00 p.m. she had been in the area of Rue Archibald and Gareau Street when she was approached by a male in a vehicle who asked if she would like to attend a carnival with him.  At no point did the male exit the vehicle.  The child ran home and police were contacted.
 
The male is described as having a dark complexion, long dark hair past his shoulders and a deep voice.  He was wearing dark framed sunglasses, silver chain and black jacket with hood.
 
The vehicle was described as a black four door Ford pickup, 4x4 with dark windows.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the East District Crime Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-2857 or CrimeStoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
DISTRACTED DRIVING TARGETED BY THE WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE
As part of our commitment to road safety, the Winnipeg Police Service participates in the Manitoba Public Insurance Awareness and Enforcement Integrated Calendar.  This calendar focusses on different hazardous driving behaviours each month.
 
The month of April focussed on Distracted Driving.  As a result the Winnipeg Police Service issued 221 provincial offence notices during the month to drivers that were using a cell phone while driving.
 
Since the cell phone law came into effect in July of 2010 the Winnipeg Police Service has issued a total of 10,361 provincial offence notices for that offence.
 
2010 - 1192 provincial offence notices
2011 - 3568 provincial offence notices
2012 - 4837 provincial offence notices
2013 - 764   provincial offence notices
