MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – C13-080997
On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 shortly after 4:00 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Main Street and Leila Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
 
Responding members located a 66 year old female who had been struck by a vehicle travelling northbound on Main Street.  The victim was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.  Anyone with information regarding this incident who has not yet spoken with Police is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477). 
 
 
STRONG-ARM ROBBERY ARRESTS – C13-080522
On April 30, 2013 shortly before 12:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the area of Livinia Avenue and Stewart Street for the report of a robbery to a person involving a firearm.
 
Officers met with a 53 year old male victim who advised that he had been approached by a male armed with a firearm who demanded the victim's backpack.  The victim refused to provide his property and fled on foot.  He was not injured.
 
On May 1, 2013 at approximately 3:00 a.m. officers responded to the report of a theft at a convenience store in the 800 block of Cavalier Drive.  The description of the male involved was similar to the suspect described in the strong-arm robbery.
 
Shortly before 6:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to a gun call at a residence within the 1st 100 block of Costello Drive.  Officers located a 15 year old male resident and took him into custody. 
 
District 2 detectives continued with the investigation which revealed that the suspect in custody and two additional males had been responsible for the above noted strong-arm robbery earlier.
 
A search warrant was later executed at the residence on Costello Drive at which time a firearm was located and seized.
 
Three male youths, one 15 year old & two 16 year olds, all of Winnipeg are facing several robbery and breach of court order related offences.  One of the 16 year old accused has been released on a Promise to Appear while the other two accused have been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
 
 
BREAK & ENTER / ASSAULT POLICE OFFICER ARREST – C13-081028
On April 1, 2013 an adult male suspect attended to a store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue and stole an undisclosed amount of merchandise.  He made good his escape.
 
The male was later identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
 
On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 shortly before 5:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to the 200 block of Ferry Road for the report of a break & enter to a shed that had just occurred.
 
One of the responding officers located the suspect within the area and while attempting to take him into custody the officer was assaulted resulting in an electronic control device (Taser) being deployed.  A struggle ensued and the suspect was able to break free and flee.
 
Members of the Canine unit attended, tracked and located the suspect at which time he was taken into custody without further incident.
 
Gordon Ian WATSON 27 years of Winnipeghas been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre and is facing charges of Assault Police Officer, Break & Enter and Personation as well as two outstanding warrants.
 
 
STOLEN VEHICLE ARREST – R13-025237
On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at approximately 1:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were patrolling in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McGregor Street when they observed a stolen vehicle.
 
When officers attempted a traffic stop the adult male driver and youth passenger fled the vehicle on foot.
 
The passenger was located by officers a short distance away.
 
Members of the Canine unit attended and the driver was located in the 500 block of Flora Avenue where he was taken into custody without incident.
 
Brendan James ARKINSON 18 years of Winnipeg has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre and is facing charges of Possess Goods Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with Sentence.
 
The passenger was released without charges.
